Found what appears to be a buckle on my first ever metal detecting expedition last summer. All I know is it is made of iron. The site I was at was a battlefield during the American Revolution and then subsequently farmland.

I was using a Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 (yikes I know) and almost fell into a garter snake nest but I still think this was a decent find given it was my first time.

Hi AdventureAce21,
Nice find!
I would believe this is a Civil War era Buckle...possibly a Roller Buckle.
I am sure other s here will verify it for you.

As stated above, it looks like a very old roller buck for a horse cinch.. Of course these days, they are stainless or brass

Most likely a 19th C horse harness buckle.
