I hunted this site over two years ago with my ACE 350, what a difference a new detector with an advanced program makes! This house looks to have been vacant for a long time. It's such a shame that after these properties were vacated due to a highway expansion plan years ago, that the houses have been just left to rot! :p

I started hunting the front yard and came up with the harmonica reeds and the pocket watch case!

I could see a lot of detail under the grime on the brass watch case and decided to 'tumble' it along with the brass horse buckle to get more detail. You can see the results in the last picture. Next I moved to the side and back yards and dug lots of trash, junk jewelery and modern coins. The grass was long at the back of the house but I managed to find the iron strap end, the bridle ring and a brass clock part!

Thanks for looking,
Dave

What a splendid batch of goodies! That must have be a fun hunt!

Awesome finds its a shame that antique field stone house has just left to rot. It's just screaming to be restored.

The house looks like its a very pretty stone or brick? I can't imagine just leaving a house like that to just decline.you found some neat stuff, what is the large object that looks like a half moon shape?

It looks like a manual half moon edger, Coilygirl. Nice looking place to hunt. It's a shame a highway has made the people move from a nice stone house. Good luck on your next hunt and thanks for sharing your finds.

It's always nice to revisit a site you've already hit and find more treasures!

I hear you RelicDude!
This is one of the reasons why I volunteered to be on 'the executive' of our local 'Heritage Committee'. My goal was to help preserve some of these heritage homes and with it our local history for future generations. But I quickly found our city council was more interested in increasing the tax coffers by selling off these properties for development then they were in preserving our past! :BangHead: This is one of the main reasons I started metal detecting 3 years ago was to try and save as much history from the ground as possible before it's lost forever to development. When possible I'll attempt to find the original property owners or their relatives and will donate any finds of interest to them. I'll also donate some of the finds to a local library to use in an interactive display to help teach kids about the past.

Thanks for your post, sorry for being so long winded. :laughing7:

Hi CoilyGirl! :hello:
As 'Old Dude' already mentioned, it's a garden edging tool, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I've removed what was left of the rotted wood inside the 'collar' and I'll clean and stabilize the metal prior to fitting it with a new handle. I'll then post it on Craigslist for sale to help pay for the batteries for my detector and pro-pointer!

Thanks for your post and best of luck to you,
Dave

I love detecting sites like this Old Dude, it's absolutely quiet on these kinds sites and I swear you can 'feel' the history around you . . . OK maybe that's just me, time to have a chat with my therapist again! :laughing7:
