I found this item on an 1800's homesite. It is the size of a nickel and appears to be brass. The back doesn't appear to have had any attachments points just some tiny corrosion marks. 20230423_201308.jpg20230423_201349.jpg

Nice find. Possibly it was inset into something originally. I’d loosely interpret the design as a neo classical wheat sheaf design. Maybe it was on a breadbox. Of course I’m stabbing in the dark. Good luck 🍀

It's the end of a spoon or utensil handle. The pattern is a fairly popular one from the late 19th to early 20th centuries known as the "Sultana" or shell pattern. What's interesting is the piece you found has been cut out and smoothed on all sides, perhaps someone just metalworking a broken handle for fun.
