Old Home Site- Need some direction with the White's V3i

Sorry I'm new to posting and realized that this thread should be here instead of general metal detecting.

I've been a member here for a while just mostly a reader.
I bought a v3i in the fall and just moved into a 107 year old homestead on 5 acres with 5 outbuildings including the original outhouse.
It's been in my fiances family since the day it was built and I know it's never been hunted before.
I've read countless threads and tried tons of different settings on my v3i. I'm on the west coast of Washington State in the soggiest
area of the state called "Grays Harbor".
I'm wondering if the wet soft ground here has something to do with me not finding anything? I mean, this place is old and has a ton of history.
It was once a strawberry farm with Japanese immigrant workers.
It's frustrating because I was sure I'd find SOMETHING. But haven't found anything besides pennies from the 1970's about 2-3 inches down and a lot of junk.
Any suggestions? I'm using the stock D2 coil and my settings right now are as follows-
Disc-90
5Hz Band Pass Filter
Modulation = OFF
Rx Gain-10
3 Frequency Mode
And I'm using a nice slow 3 second swing or so.
I really appreciate any ideas or direction anyone may have for me.

I think most people would kill for moist soft ground !

Are you doing a good ground balance ?

I'm in Michigan so my soil probably won't be like yours but the settings you're using might have a lot to do with it, especially if you're in a high mineralization ???

Yeah get rid of the stock coil first then get the 4x6 dd or the 6x10 dd

Theres the way to find stuff where your at...good luck and let me know what you find..

Forget the stock coil its worthless where your hunting bro.....I wish I was there it sounds like a cool place to look for nectar:find:

I don't own a v3i but have read alot about it and I would suggest doing a ground scan first to find out your mineralization type and % and I would use modulation on so u can hear those whisper signals maby run 3 kHz or 7.5 all by itself I've herd the power is split between all three so one freq alone will prob go deeper certainly need more info on ur settings though hopefully somebody with one of these badboys will chime in to help out gl

The only thing that Modulation does is instead of giving a normal beep it makes it a faint beep for the deep stuff, turning the modulation off was the first thing that I did with my V3i because I prefer hearing things good, then when I go to pinpoint I can automatically tell whether it's a deep target by the sound. In reality when you use the modulation you are actually using process power to generate the different loudness of the target.

i can understand that i do not have one of these badboys but would love to have one so ive been reading however theres no replacement for experence so what do u think is going on for the above problem im sure the v3i will go deeper than 2-3"

Test it out, there may be a problem with the detector and it needs to be repaired. Load a stock program just to make sure it's nothing stupid that was accidentally changed incorrectly. Air test some coins at 6-10 inches and see what you get. Bury a coin at 6 inches and see if you can see it. If you can go to the site in question and bury a coin at 6 inches and see if you get close to the same result. Maybe there just is nothing deep there. Good luck and let us know what you find!

I have used a v3i for almost two years. You really need post the results of a ground probe for me to really help you. You said there is lots if junk. Are you in correlate mode or best data? It takes a 100 hours before you really are proficient with the v3i. Eventually you'll be able to tell the difference between junk signals and good ones. Until you can I recommend you dig a lot of junk. Besides the junk could be masking coins and other goodies.

Hi all. Just an update. I buried a silver quarter at exactly 6" in my yard and wasn't able to pick it up in any of the stock programs or any of my custom ones. I immediately knew I
had a problem. I read a lot of threads and read about the hard reset. There was mixed opinions on it and a lot of people say it worked for them while a lot said it doesn't do anything on the v3i.
With nothing to lose, I went ahead and tried it and was instantly able to air test at 12+". The next day I went out and the quarter I buried sounds off like music :)
I have since had a couple hours hunting and found 3 wheat pennies. I'm just getting started but whatever the ahrd reset did, it worked. Just wanted to let you all know and thank you
for all of your help!

Good morning Gebular, I am having the same issues as you. How do you do a hard reset?
Thanks Robbie

Hey Rob. Just turn your machine on, then remove the battery pack. Wait a couple minutes and re-install the battery and turn it back on.
Simple as that! And you wont lose any of your saved programs. Let us know if it works for you.
