Thats a good one. Looks like a roofing hatchet to me. One on my bucket list. Congrats!

My father was a tool collector and that looks very much like what we would call a lath hatchet. They were used to nail up the wooden laths that were on the wall before plaster was spread over them. (Before the days of drywall/Sheetrock). If you have ever torn out a wall in a really old house you know what I’m talking about. Usually the head will have a checker pattern on the end used for nailing. When you clean it up you will be able to tell for sure. Congratulations on an interesting find. Stay safe and keep swingin.

That's another idea. They call it a waffle head.
