This is a old Cap and Ball gun. It is a stage prop. It is the right weight, metal, wood grips, etc and is fully functional but it only shoots the cap and ball caps. Period caps though. Really cool piece. Good on display or to play around with. Will sell it for best offer. Trade it for metal detecting equipment, diving equipment, a boat cover for my 16' boat, Scrap Gold, Coins, War Stuff..Etc.. You can buy these for anywhere between $120 and $180 as with everything the more you spend the better the quality. This one is real good quality
Here is some info on it.
Introduced in 1850 and made through 1873, the total production of this revolver was about 255,000 pieces. This cap-and-ball revolver fired six 36 caliber balls, and a loading mechanism was incorporated into the design. This non-firing replica has the handling characteristics of the original, with functional lock and loading mechanisms. It was made in the grey and "navy" finish. I'm not sure if this particular model was made by Griswold & Gunnison or Colt or both. Here is some more info. This replica brass-framed Civil War pistol is a version of the Griswald & Gunnison Type that were made by contract to the Confederacy in Georgia, and only 500 or so were ever made between 1862 & 1864, and only about a dozen now survive or exist in various museums and private collections today. It was very similar to a Model 1851 Colt Navy pistol, but the Colt had an octagonal barrel, and the Griswold had the round barrel as shown.
