Old Grange hall site & Farmers' Union Hall yields some silver
Last week an older gentleman told me about an "Cooperative Farmers' Union Hall" that was the site of dances on Friday nights, wedding receptions & many other parties and meetings. He said when he was young it was where all the "wild oats" were sown. The building was long since gone, but if I were to watch I could see the old concrete steps standing in a field.
Following his directions I found it. I saw a worn tractor path headed for the next house down the road. So, I pulled in the drive, where the owner happened to be socializing with a friend and his wife. Introcuced myself and asked if it were possible to hunt the site.
They readily gave me permission, and told me to hunt it whenever I wanted.
Said it was originally a Grange Hall, then a members only Farmers Union Hall. According to them the woods around the hall could account for the original conception of many of the farm kids born in the area. The parties were wild, and numorous.
I spent a coupld of hours there on Saturday, and then about 4 hour on Sunday. I dug many many can tabs, can slaw, bottle tops, and bit and pieces of metal. I did find a bit of silver, some wheaties, and a gold plated siver locket.
1935 Merc (my second Merc, also my second 1935)
1952 Roosie
Wheaties : 1935, 1938S, 1941, 1946, 1950 & 1953D
I will be back out again soon. Thanks for looking.
