Good stuff! With the rack gear and other items that must have been a good sized operation.
Thanks for your reply. There were alot of large iron signals we didn't dig today. On the creek bank there is a concrete monument that has anchor bolts for holding some type of equipment. Which piece is the rack gear you are referring to?Thanks

Not getting but so specific, but where generally are you in eastern Nc? If theres a gold mine I’m assuming no further east than the fall line (i.e. a bit west of I-95). Perhaps Halifax/person/warren/ franklin/wilson, but otherwise I’m lost.

You are correct. I am close to the Franklin County line West of 95.It was owned by my uncle in laws grandfather.I think it was in operation in the 1930s.I had no idea of the exact vicinity of its location until a cousin stumbled upon the foundation of it last deer season. Thanks for looking

The long straight piece on the right with teeth is part of a rack gear.

Thanks for the information you provided. I was thinking the rack gear was part of the sluice. LOL But ,with your help now I know..It was a long hike dragging that heavy piece out of there. When we get a chance to go back I will post some more pictures. Thanks again and enjoyed talking to you,Lee

It was not an underground mine. Its located where 2 small creeks feed into each other. I'm not sure exactly how much was found there. It was ran by my uncle in laws grandfather. For a short amount of time it was taken over by the Federal Government I was told. The locals have always said that a piece of gold as big as Turkey Egg was found near there.Im sure they had to have pulled something from there ,but I don't know for how much. There's several piles of small quartz rock piled up there.

So does this mean you can not prospect or detect there ?
