✅ SOLVED Old gas cap?

Hello everyone,

Today on my first metal detecting adventure in my backyard I dug this thing up. Im thinking an old gas can cap. I am unsure of the metal. Any ideas? Thanks SDD

Welcome to the forum. Since it is rusted, it's iron. As far as what it is, I don't know, but it looks to be a cap/lid of some sorts. Breezie

Actually they're steel, rather than iron.

Thank you. Looking at the provided picture and the one I found I can now make out the small holes on the edge of the center bar.
