I found this old bottle on an old trail yesterday. It's 4 inches tall, by 1 1/4 inch in diameter. It has one flat side to it. Really thick glass. What era do you think it came from, and what do you suppose it contained? Maybe some kind of medicine? Why would it have one flat side. Meant to lay on it's side?
What do you think...

How long is it? Can we get a pic of the side (with the bottle straight up and down?

This is a beautiful looking little bottle find Lamy! :occasion14:
My first thought was that it's likely European in origin, it looks to have been made in a pressed glass mold with an applied top and dates to the late-19thc.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge then I will be able to help you here.

From what I understand, they made the flat side so that the bottle would lay on it's side in order to keep the cork wet. Neat glass!

Makes sense, that the bottle is from the 1800's. I have found many items from that period on this trail. I believe this trail was used as far back as the 1600's. Like the idea about the flat side used to keep the cork wet...
Thanks
