Well the foundation in question. Is an old 1850's schoolhouse. I know for a fact that building was on that property.

Does the rock mark like chalk or just feels like chalk. Take a picture looking straight down on it. Can you see any markings on it?

What type of rock do I have? As I said I know for a fact that the property that I'm on at one time back in the 1850s there was a school there and it was lost to a storm and in the 1920s they built the building that is still there today.

Most time I would just brush the dirt off. The dirt in the cracks help you see what could be hidden. I can still see enough to tell you that it is part of a map. On one of the cracks if followed. There is the omega symbol. It is also part of a number. There is a 2 next to the symbol. Like I told you numbers are used to make letters and words. It is made of limestone probably. Is there any springs in your area? A lot of times a stone will be shaped like a larger place or topo.

It's hard to determine the age there were the KGC around also. The Jesuits were kick out in 1763 by the french. So that can give you a range. They use a lot of the same signs an symbols. You should be able to find a little more information about your area. That may help to determine which group it was. They do leave their so called stamp on their work. I look for their initials on the stones. JHS,jhs JIS. They are known to make it backwards and on top of each other. They write their name the same way.

Backwoodsbob I was doing some reading and came across a pic that reminded me of something on my rock. Is this supposed to be an eye ball or am I just reading to much into it?

Perhaps it was used as chalk on a piece of slate in the classroom , the teacher would break off a piece when needed??
