WOW is that a broken grooved axe? That is very cool Richard! Great find :hello2:

Felinepeachy: Thank you very much, Mia! I was almost ashamed to post it after seeing the great things that you and the others find!

Marinedad: Thank you very much, it was last year that I found it!

SRV: Thank you very much too, SVR! I thought it was an axe but I haven't researched any Indian finds in years and of course it's a bit hard to remember after so long!

Are the Full Grooved Axes like this one rare or do they show up frequently?

I have (or had, I'm not sure where it is) one made of blue black flint, but it was shaped a little different, if my memory serves me.

I may try to find it sometime, I'd really like to know what it is and it isn't broken (I think).

Thanks again all!

Sky Pilot, Stone Tools are getting rarer and rarer to find, but they are still out there if you are in the right area. Iowa is a great place to find Axes as are most midwest states. I have quite a few that I have found and bought that are all from Ohio. Yours is still a nice find even damaged.

Thank you very much SRV, for the kind words and the great information!

The capitol of the Cherokee Nation was in my area and of course the Cherokees lived in the same areas that the older Indians lived so we sometimes find relics of both cultures at the same site.

There used to be plenty of finds every year here until the farms started spraying the ground instead of plowing it.

Thanks again, SRV!
