The fields are closing up real fast as most of the corn has been planted and is running around 6" tall now. Well over the past few years I've been detecting a large field along a roadside that once had five old homes. There had been some kind of green stuff growing there and it's pretty tough stuff to dig thru and it's there all year long even thru the winter so I kept hoping that someday it'll get turned over and replanted.
Well I've completely missed it! The past month I've changed machines and had sent one out to Fisher to be looked at and I've lost about 3 wks of detecting time there and wasn't too concerned about that field. By chance I drove by the field today and they tilled it all up! They went and planted corn The landowner is fine with me going in it still but I won't go back until late fall once the corn is out. So I took advantage of the time today for 1 1/2 hrs and did pretty good.
First of two coins was a 1786 Spanish Half Reale, sure is in rough shape at 226yrs old but enough detail to identify with the date still legible. Then came a 1848 Large Cent that I think will clean up well in a olive oil bath. Also dug 7 old buttons, one appears to be a Tombac, others from London and a couple early American I think with the flower patterns. So now that I know that there's so much more there waiting for me, I have to wail until most likely late November.
Enjoy!
