I had to do it, I almost didn't but when I got home... I just had to go digging. The winds were blowing, the snow was snowing and the wind chill was chilling! I stuck it out for about 75 minutes and managed another largy! A bit newer than yesterdays Matron Head, this one 1827 and in better condition. Also dug a soft metal little toy tomohawk or something, kinda cool! It's bendable so I'm careful with it, seems like lead perhaps.

Sweet large cent

In the fields I've only ever used a standard small shovel. I don't use the tall ones, I like the shorter ones, they work well as a walking stick to your side and they're easy to carry and handle as I rarely put my detector down while digging a hole.
