A friend and i got permission to detect some colonial farm fields in town. It wasn't the most busy area to detect much to my disappointment but i did come up with a few things. 4 old buttons, an Indian head cent, buckle, lock face an part to a clock. The Indian head is toast unfortunately. Judging from the thickness and weight, i believe it's the first generation type between 1859-1864. I was barely able to make out a possible 1864 out of it when i dug it. But what i think is the most cool is this button. It seems extremely old and still has thread that somehow managed to survive on it all those years! Thanks for looking!

Hi; Nice finds. The button in question is 1700's. It is a 1 piece button with Full Shank. The 1 Piece button went out of use by 1820. Yours is older than that. Nice find. Value $2 due to condition ok. PEACE:RONB

Very nice hunt,
I dug an 1864 IHP that rang in as a nickel.
I found out later that some of these early pennies had a copper nickel composition.
From 1859 to 1864 the composition was 88% copper 12% nickel.
From 1864 to 1909 the composition was 95% copper 5% tin or zinc
If your IHP registered in the nickel range, it could be 1864 or earlier
Congrats

Congrats on your finds. One of my most prized finds is a gilded button ( not nearly as old as yours! ) with several loops of thread still on the shank.

Great finds Ceredox & congrats! Wish you many more great finds dirt fishing.

Yup it rang exactly like a nickel. I actually thought it was another button. Never expected to pop out an Indian Head. It very thick compared to other IHP, so i'm assuming its that style. Definitely makes sense.

Thanks guys! The season is young so hopefully they're the first of many!

Love the old relics, congratulations! :icon_thumleft:
