Found this while detecting an old farm site. I have a 1938 map of the area and it shows a house in this location. Found two foundations, one was a small foundation of cut stone with a poured slab. I found this item next to it along with a lot of other stuff. The clip(s) look like a suspender style clip that slides over the brass post. The middle looks like stainless and was brand new shiny coming out of the ground. The backing seems to be maybe fiber board? There were some old rusty studs on the back (sorry no pic of the back). It looks like possibly it was an early electrical item with all the posts for wire connectors but the clip reminds me of something you'd clip on and off a shoulder harness maybe? Camera? Just not sure.

I initially thought of some sort of early telephone equipment. The post looks right, as does the piece of wiring with the braided sheath. Is it indeed braided? What is stumping me at the moment, is the stainless round housing and the clip. You may be right about it being a clip for some kind of harness.

My best guess at the moment it that it is possibly some sort of early portable telephone testing equipment.
