Lately I have been hunting a site that has brought up some interesting (to me at least) items from the 1920's-30's. Old pocket watch, makeup compacts and buckles. I did dig this piece of metal up and something about it made me bring it home for a closer look. The way it had a sort of "boxy" look caught my eye. It sat in my "clean later" box until yesterday and after I got all the dirt off of it I saw it had what looked to be a keyhole on both sides. The item's cover was loose so I gently pried it off - and It will go back on as it has a couple holes for the prongs to fit back in - and saw that there was some kind of mechanism inside. I haven't had any luck in my search online when looking under "vintage door locks". Could it be something else?

I'll post some photos and see what you all think of it. Any guesses on the age or possible manufacturer? (It's rusted up bad so I'm not holding out much hope that it will be ID'ed)

Thanks in advance!!

That is a single lever tumbler deadlock. it is rim (surface mounted) from the looks of it. Intended to be mounted to a door or a cabinet door. The part with the rectangle hole in it is the lever tumbler. The spring is missing and the lever tumbler has dropped slightly out of position. It would be difficult to age or identify as to manufacturer with out some sort of reference to compare it to.
