What size is it? Looks like an ear tag for cattle.

It's a little bit larger then a quarter. It was found on a mountain at a old home site that as far as I know never had cattle.

What else could it be? Why does it appear to have initials on it.

Mack, I have seen this style of tag listed on Treasurenet as a "tool tag," used by local companies when an employee checks out a tool They hang the tag on the hook where the tool hangs until the employee brings the tool back at the end of shift. Happy Hunting, Sub 8-)

Huh never heard of that.. What era? Would the 67 be the date and the initials be the employees?

Could it be a minors tag? There is an old coal mining operation right near where I found it and I have head about minors tags that they would put on a board so they knew that everyone had come out of the mines that day.

They look very similar but I googled coal minors tags (again this was found just yards from a mining operation) and they look almost exactly like what I found so I am leaning in that direction.

It could be a miners tag or a lock tag. I used to put a key number under my initials on the same style of lock tags. Many different combos of ideas on these but if there was a mine in the area then most likely it came from a miners lock or locker. It could be a tool tag because of the 3 initials, the GVH is the mystery that could solve this tag It could be the company initials or just a simple name tag. If you find that GVH was a company in the area then you will have it solved.
It could be something like "The Grand View Hotel" :)
