✅ SOLVED Old Copper thing. I am at a loss!

Dug it at about 8" in a field. Rang up in the high 80's on the ATP. Looks like it may be an old label thingy for a furnace, but I cannot tell. There is a stamp on the back, but I cannot read it. Does anyone have any idea or a hint, so I can look in the right direction??

Any chance it reads "Dec 11, 1883"?
If so, it could be US Patent # 289,849, issued to Ernest R. Michaelis of Sycamore, OH.

Also, Dec 1, 1883 was a Saturday, and even back then, I doubt government folks worked on the weekend!
That, and no other US patents were issued on that day.
