Cold and rainy today so I grabbed up the ATP and headed to a site that's always turning up old coins…DID NOT expect to find something like this today!

When I first dug it, I thought it was a spoon or some other old kitchen utensil so I just stuffed it in my pouch. When I got home and cleaned it up, I thought I knew what it was and after a bit of online research, yep Old Copper Culture spearpoint.

Never dug anything like this before so I don't know much about it, but I'll be reading more about it today/tonight. I want to try and narrow a date down.

Thanks for looking.

Sorry about the lighting in the pics!

That's got to be really old. It looks Caveman.

great save thanks for sharing

Could be pretty old, as Copper Culture itself dates as far back as 8000 years BP. Your spearpoint isn't likely that old, but similar ones have been dated to ~3200 BP. Heckuva find regardless of it's precise age.

Thanks!

It appears to be 3-5000 yrs old from what info I've found on the net.

that's awesome. it's cool to think about the guy that made it, and wonder what it was thrown at

Wow thats bad A$$..

I'm not sure of the rarity of this, but seems like it is banner worthy.

That's a really awesome find!

Fantastic find! I can't wait for the experts to chime in. :)

Today I got permission to hunt a 60acre parcel that is right in the heart of Old Copper Complex. This property is bordered by a river and also has an old school & farm house foundations that were last used in the 30's.

Should be some good hunting!
