✅ SOLVED old copper button

found this in an area with historical significance. it was pretty deep, has petina spots indicating its copper, so it must be somewhat old. looks like maybe an eagle symbol...tried searching, didnt come up with anything. it was in the same area i found a matron head large cent not too long ago
 

That PARTICULAR eagle-I-button emblem (note that the eagle is extremely "symetric") is found only on US Army Infantry officer buttons, in service from 1851 to 1873. because you did not mention it haing a backmark, there's no way to be more specific than the 1851-1873 dating.

wow thats so cool... i feel like a bit of an amateur archeologist... lol... i didnt see anything on the back and the eyelet isnt there, but i will post a back pic later when i get home, thanks!!!
