Well whatever it is it obviously belonged to a giant based on its size... oh wait... those are just the pictures that are the size of my head... =)

Look cool... but can't help ya.

From a woman's point of view I would have to say that it looks a little too big for a compact. Also, the hardware is a little heavy. It reminds me of something but I can't remember what. How about a photo from a little bit further back so we can see both halves?

Interesting find scal.
I've resized the pics for you, so they're easier to view. You will have to learn how to do that, for all your future finds

My thought would be part of a ladies chatelaine. They had all kinds of useful things attached to a broach-like pin, like sewing kits, perfume bottles and, in this case, a container with paper in it for writing notes. It also came with a mechanical pencil.

As old as it looks it could have contained a few pinches of snuff. Even the ladies use to sniff some snuff and it was considered quite stylish at one time. They would only need to carry a small amount as they put it up their nose and used just enough to make them sneeze. They wouldn't have dreamed of putting it in their mouth like they do now. Oh well, just a guess. Monty
