It appears to be some sort of token from the presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison in 1840. He was the 9th president of the United States and died shortly after his presidency in 1841. He did a lot of campaigning and many different types of tokens were. With a bit of research i'm sure you could get an exact ID

Here's a similar example . https://www.google.com/search?safe=...KHcmSBDMQ4dUDCAc&uact=5#imgrc=HTsEIbKp2fZzRM:

Very interesting find, that token should clean up nicely too.
It's even nicer now that you have an I.D. for it.

Actually, it's not (but you're very close!) A buddy of mine was able to identify it as a Hard Times Token from 1834. The man on it is Gulian C. Verplanck - a NY politician who was a member of the House of Representatives.

The token reads: GULIAN C. VERPLANCK OUR NEXT GOVnr
and on the reverse: FAITHFUL FRIEND TO OUR COUNTRY

I LOVE the eagle! Here's what it looks like as an undug version:

According to this site it has a rarity index of 100 (out of 100) so maybe it's a good one.

Not sure I'll do too much cleaning, it's already starting to flake as it dries.

Awesome find! I would not clean it, because it may be worth some $$$.

Your right. I had a feeling my ID was iffy. I didn't think it was a hard times token given it did not say "not one cent" like I though they all did.
Good job researching it.

Your ID seemed pretty good to me! A buddy of mine who's very good with history was able to piece it together. When I saw the eagle I thought I finally had my first seated quarter, but no dice. Oh well, next time!
