a friend of mine's daughter was pulling weeds in her yard here in pa and she found this coin. I plan on getting better pics as these are from my cell phone. one side seems to have a cross with a double border around it. the back side has a house (or church) and it almost looks like fire in the windows. no dates but a small ccty (not really sure of this text/script) - i plan on getting better pics as soon as I can. this coin is almost the size of a walking half ( I've take the pics on a dollar for scale.) I've never seen a coin like this, and I popped it under my ace 350 - it didn't come up silver, it came up in the gold area. I also tried a magnet and it doesn't stick to it. I looks very much like silver and it feels a little heavier then maybe a walking half. the sides of the coin look like it was rough carved and not totally round. I am going to do some internet searches for coins with crosses on them, just to see what I come up with- but I have no idea what the age of this coin is- or if it's really something of value -I'd assume that if it was real silver it would have pinged my Ace350 out on a surface hit -more in to the silver ranger vs the gold range. any ideas about this coin would be helpful. Thanks all in advance!!! :icon_thumright:

it sure does look like a copy - any idea what it's made of? as I've been checking this site out - http://www.atocha1622.com/Atocha 8 Reale Replica Coins.htm - and they are selling copies at $99. ... found in a garden by someone pulling weeds... too funny... a real one would be 99.9 silver right? since my 350 said it wasn't silver- I'm inclined to think it's not the real deal... how often does one find a copy? so Thanks everyone - copy of an 8 reale is it!!!! :headbang:

Copies are showing up everywhere. It looks kinda shiny for an old buried silver coin. Im going with copy but a silver test will tell. Modern copies are made out of shiny nickel plated pot metal.
