I've been hunting an old home site and have found a few interesting items there. This one piece left me wondering if it was used for something else besides a coin. I've dug some 1/2 reales at this site and some had a single hole punched through them. (BTW -I don't seem to be good at finding any with their dates remaining). This one has four holes and is bent. Does not appear to have been struck by a plow but is curved. My question is, with the four holes in the position they are in and being curved, could this have been made into a ring back in the day? Maybe tied onto the finger? Has any others like it come up? Or perhaps, I've looked at it too long with too much imagination? Thanks for looking and as always any comments are welcomed.

You may have a contact period Native American artifact. Some Indians wore Spanish and early American coins as decoration. Post this in the Artifacts section and someone may be able to help.

These coins were not found near a known Native American site. There have been several 1840s coins found there as well. The reales are always worn but the seated liberties are generally in good shape. Home site dates late 1820 - 1840ish.

The English used to bend worn coins for "good luck"....I would guess that is what you have there. Search my "love token" thread on "Today's Finds" where someone posted a link on bent coins. The Z shape of my coin is definitely a "love token" not properly addressed by the article.

Bent AND (4) holes 90 degrees apart? I'd say that is very interesting Reb! I'd like to see these in person.....
