Looks like Roman numerals X and VII. All I can make out is REGI.

How about a little history such as where geographically was this farm? If in the U.S., what were the local enclaves, ie. Dutch, German, and the like.

I was just ready to ask whether it was copper, silver, or billon.

Is that what yours is from several years back?

my daughter posted this for me today. the weight is 5.39 grams or .19 oz. the coin is almost the same diameter as a modern day 50 cent piece. i did not have a chance to look at it very much before so i will try to get more info off of it tonight, but it looks like theirs a date on it of 1654?. also to ansewer the question of where it came from. it was found in a plowed field by eye by the land owner. in the central part of delaware. i was realy shocked to see this coin. trying to talk the land owner to take a trip with me with metal detectors in hand before crops are replanted.. also the coin apears to be copper.

I agree with everyone else, its a counterstamped spanish maravedis.

IMO, whatever the counter-stamp (VI or VIII), the Roman figures suggests a downward reevaluation from the original value.
So what was the orig. denomination and who was the reigning king?

It denotes the then King - ie. Phillip VI

So is that to the exclusion of the "VI" also representing a devaluation or is it coincidental that it may represent both; part of the king's title AND the reevaluation? Anyway, I didn't know that Spain had a Philip VI; thought P VI was French.

I made the name up as an example.
