Hello everyone been a long time since I've posted anything. About 5 weeks ago I made a leap after 20 yrs using whites units. And I bought a new etrac and traded in my v3i. Great unit to if in the right hands. I've found them to be very close in performance.

I constantly read on the forums how bad certain units are and its not true. Take it from me I hunt every day and have thousands of hrs in this hobby. Its the user and site location witch is key. I've got about 60 hrs on the etrac and I'm getting the hang of it.

I've pulled 30 silvers in the first month I had the unit plus a bunch of other nice finds. But today I came across a coin in a old wooded area that I'm not familiar with. At first glance I was thinking Spanish. Its bigger than a u.s quarter and thinner.

It appears to be pretty old. If anyone could shed some light it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks HH Jer

Yeah I thought maybe a counterfeit of some type of Spanish coin. It has been in the ground a long time though. It took multiple peroxide baths to get it clean. There are old foundations in these woods as well. It has a gold gilt to it. Maybe it was being passed off as a Spanish gold coin. Definetly a older counterfeit if that's what it is.

Thanks for your comments

Thanks guys Mac if you can't I.d it no one can lol. I'm going with 1800s counterfeit Spanish coin for now. Or like you said token or souvenir. Its def old though. Had green corrosion all over it. Plus I was finding late 1800s coins and relics in the general area.

Modern replica 8 Escudo.

Thanks a lot that's it IP. I think its from the 1800s though. Def a fake prob trying to be passed off as a real one.

I think it's even more intriguing that it's a copy...and an old one at that. Sweet find!

Still a nice find. It's actually pretty cool looking.

That only makes sense if you think someone would have created a cast plated coin to pass off as a hammered one... and they did it in a time where there was actually milled gold coins they could copied much better by casting. :) To do that in the 1800s likely makes even less sense than the 1700s.... so it's hard to create a good working theory it could be an old counterfeit.

It's a fake copy of a 1740 Lima 8 escudo. Right about it being pretty hard to pass one of these off in the old days. It could be an old novelty item. It has better details than most of the fakes done recently that I have seen. Most of those are dated 1736.

Yeah I agree its not cast it's a solid copper or bronze coin with slight convex to it. Appears to be punched. There are no seams on rim just smooth and thin. It has that old look and wear to it also. I'm thinking turn of the century prob.

Something you don't see every day though

Thanks for your thoughts guys

These cheap metal copies don't need to be long in the ground until they are messed up. Not 1800s in my opinion.

Yeah I agree this is a good copy though. My guess is turn of the century or so. I could tell on the buildup on the coin how long it may have been under ground.
