My wife and I are heading out today for an old church site to MD. It’s about 2 hours away from our home. I can’t find any info on the old church, (since long gone). It’s out in the middle of nowhere and I don’t think anyone has ever searched it. If we find anything I’ll post it tonight. I do know that a small CW battle took place just 200 yards north of it. Legend has it that the Kaffer Treasure isn’t far away from this place. Well, we’ll see what we can find!

good luck but I'd stay out of the graveyard. sounds like a great area, those old churches had a lot of activity.!

We never MD the graveyard, just the area where old churches used to be. đź‘Ť

Good luck! I've had good finds at churches, but the whole general area sounds good as well.
We found what seemed like 10,000 nails, pull tabs and beer cans, 1 old window weight, an old mop head and a total of 23¢, all clad. Spent the day there and didn’t get home until almost 8:30 tonight. We’re both very tired!

I’ll tell you what…., I found Another overlooked cemetery that had a church on it up until 1972. It’s on a major highway in central Missouri and it looks like just a small grove of trees. The old church was built in the middle of the trees in 1899 from what I can find online. Sunday on our way to Mark Twain State Park we’re going to go have a look and let the Garrett’s sniff around a bit. I hope it’s better than the last place we went!
We’re going to Mark Twain Lake for a few days.

Best of luck! I wouldn't give up on the first site yet. Did you move out towards the area you suspected of the Civil War skirmish?

Be carefully, Missouri Turkey season is on, probably better wear safety orange out there guys

certainly the owner would tell him not to detect if someone had permission to turkey hunt that day. but you never know, people sneak on others land all the time.

No, we ended up going to another place I’ve been eyeing. We didn’t find much there either. I’m wondering if I should set the detector more sensitive? It picked up a piece a piece of aluminum can smaller than 1/2 of a dime though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Very true! Where we go there isn’t any hunting activity. But it is a great idea to be safe rather than be sorry. Thank you for the tip! It’s very much appreciated!

Agreed! We’re going on public land that’s close to town. For the next week we’re going to be in small towns looking around. We might ask for permission to search a few yards in the town we’ll be camping near. One house in particular was built in 1830 and I hope they let us.
An invaluable tool is an app called “Regrid.” It tells who the current owner is, acreage and when the structure was built. Sometimes it gives the address of the owner. I like that app a lot! And the best part is Regrid is free.
