Been detecting over a bank along a brook and came across an old car from long ago. The pics attached show a step, found two of them, this was in better shape. Also, what I believe to be the outer case of a headlight.

Any thoughts as to how I might be able to determine the make and model of this oldie?

The first pic looks more like a buggy step?

Tony, I wondered the same thing as I didn’t think the step looked like a part from a car. Also, the chassis and axle, stuck in the mud, don’t look the part of it being heavy duty enough for a car. As to the second pic of the “headlight” would they have had something that size?

The step could be buggy or early automobile. A few of the pre 1910 cars used a buggy type step like a 1909 Maxwell jr automobile and quite a few of the high wheeler autos used buggy style steps. The head light bucket and fork is probably not much earlier then 1913 or 14 since it is electric. I’d be real curious to see photos of the remains of the car.
