I found this in some old trash, not with a MD. Some kind of old trunk or glove box lock maybe. The automobile design on the key is interesting. The first side resembles an old Studebaker, but the other side is a car of the future design. What is this????

Each car does have something at the tail end but i can't make it out from the corrosion. It is an old style car and an old style rain or dust cover that swings open for the keyhole. The second car looks like a UFO.

I did a bunch of searches of 1950's "concept cars"... as I don't think either of those were ever production vehicles. I agree on the resemblance to a Studebaker on one side... but ... I just don't know. :-\ An interesting piece though.

Thanks guys,? Looking closer it appears to have something sticking out the back of both cars. Maybe its a spare tire lock and key, and the cars are fictional. :-\ Here is a pic of the bottom. There is a spring inside.

Charlene, Thanks, A 50-51 Studebaker has a center headlight also, but it does look more like a Tucker. They have a forum on their site and maybe I'll post it there to see what they say. The 'car of the future' looks almost like one of those those big finned Chryslers my Dad owned when I was a kid. 8)

I sure hope it is BigCypress, that would make your find REAL special, those are rare, they sure didn't make many of them. Pretty much ran the man out of the business because his idea's were too good. A real shame.

Yes, I seen the movie. It was a good true story.
They only made 51 cars. So it would be a real longshot.

Tucker Club told me it is NOT a Tucker key or lock.

Someone told me it is an old aftermarket tire lug nut lock. The problem is that it would have to have a 7/8" stud. I tried it on my truck and it fits over the stud with the lug nut on it, but it won't hold. ???

I agree it looks like a glove box lock. I'm still trying to figure out how that was fastened to something.

It fits over a 7/8 inch diameter round stud. A piece moves in and out when the key is turned on the side, and would grip if the stud had a 1/4" hole in the side. It might grip onto threads if they were coarse and fit tight.

It will grip onto a stud 7/8" dia. with a hole like this:
(I'm using a 1/2"MPT galv pipe).

Good description. So it was meant to be removable (I don't know why I had it in my mind that this would have been attached to something, like todays glove compartment locks being attached to the door of the glove box). And it seems it wouldn't do much good on a threaded stud without a hole in it, or else someone could spin the thing down the threads until it came off. So maybe more likely it matched up with a pin with a groove that the locking wedge would fit into? A neat item... I hope we all get it figured out.

Come on you guys It's a lock to lock your spare tire onto the spare tire carrier like on the back of a van.

That's why it doesn't fit a lug.
Buddy~

Call it solved I had a van with one exactly like it.
