Because I found this item near the remains (very little) of an old car/truck and a hood ornament signifying the "Diamond T" make, I assume this is a car part. I may be wrong. Anyone know what this part was used for? Made of metal, it measures about 5 inches long.

Update: Yes, the caps do screw off. There are no words on the item. When unscrewing caps, there were traces of liquid dripping out that looked like water. Some have said this may have captured water from the fuel and it could make sense. If you look at the first picture, there was a small section of rusted "fuel line" running horizontal to the bottom connection that broke off. The very bottom is an opening about an 1/8" in width. Anyway a few more pictures as requested.

hydraulic brakes are new stuff........ they were mostly after WWII

looks more like a bowl to capture water from the fuel.... is the cap on the end removable?

For the sake of possibly putting a date to it can we see the hood ornament?
And, are there markings on the end cap? Or anywhere else?

Because of the fittings, I would guess a resevoir for some kind of fluid. Be it brake, power steering, antifreeze or whatever. :dontknow:

Looks like a old accumulator. Maybe Bosch? Have you tried to remove the cap?

Do you have any pictures of the bottom of the fitting?

The hood ornament is late '40's to early '50's. Beauty!
