I always keep my eyes to the ground and today it paid off. While scouting hunting land with my dad I noticed some random broken pieces of glass and ceramic. That tells me there is probably an old dump near by. So I start looking, since I'm a dump picker, looking for old bottles etc. I see this button laying on the surface. At first it looked like a plain ol' plastic button. This is obliviously a shell button and appears to be hand carved. Since it was found near a dump site I can only assume it was once someone's garbage. The dump site contained screw top bottles and jars but not plastic so I think the site is fairly old. I believe the button could be older than the site. Any opinions?

I should rephrase...I don't think the button was there before the trash. I think it came with the trash but could be old. Hope that makes sense.

hi Powder, nice shell button. Probably not that old, but still nice find. I collect buttons, & make jewelry out of the shell ones. Happy Hunting!

hmm..you should take a sifter out and see what turns up -I tried that at a dump recently for the first time and got a silver ring right off the bat
Id like to see a pic of the dump....

Hey Pete. I'll try looking around more and will try to get some pics for ya. Thanks for responding.

I not knowing any better, would have thought like you it was older, at least older than screw top bottles.
