Well now that I'm not stationed in Germany anymore, I decided to research a little American history where I am stationed now. It was pretty hot out today but as you see below, my persistence paid off nicely! 
It's not in the greatest shape as the shank on the back side is broken off but other than that, it is complete. I found it in a river near a fort from the mid 1800's. I know the button is some sort of old military type, but I need to complete more research. Thanks for looking.
