Well, I finally got my new detector.? Man, that 3-day shipping seemed like it took 3 years!? (even though it only took 3 days)? :)

Anyway, I went back out to my Dad's house, which is where I found that Franklin half and wheatie the first time.? As a reminder, the house was originally built as a farm house in the 1860s.

This time I found an interesting old button??? It is almost exactly the same size as a silver dollar (just a hair bigger).? There are no markings on it whatsoever...front or back...that I can tell.?

Can someone identify this???? My dad and I are quite curious.?

Thanks!!? Michael

P.S.--I am definitely hooked!? I have spent many hours this past week out and about with my new detector, just trying to get used to it, and learn how it works and all.? Very exciting!!!? Can't wait to find those old coins and everything else!

I forget what they're called, but this lead button-like object was used for a weight on the inside of jackets and other clothing. They are still used today. Ask someone who does alot of sewing or garment making (which isn't me). I have found quite a few and they vary in size and shape.
Happy Hunting!

I would have to agree with the previous post, probably a dress or coat hem weight. But who knows for sure what it may have been used for...even a button.
