We relic-diggers and button collectors call that type of brass button a "1-piece flat-button." The ones with no backmark (maker's-mark) were manufactured sometime between the 1790s and 1840s. They were manufactured for use by the Civilian clothing industry, although a few did get used on Military uniforms. The 1-piece type fell out of favor by the early-1840s, due to the advent of cheaply-priced 2-piece buttons with decorative designs on their front.
