Hey guys,

Maybe someone out there with more button knowledge than me or a good guide book could put a i.d on this button.

I found it in the woods down about 7 or 8 inches about a week or so ago. It is large and domed shaped. It has a letter K in the center with a reef around it.

It is back marked Extra Quality. I thought possibly WW1 era. But it did resemble some civil war era buttons I came across. It's about the size of a quarter. Maybe a hair smaller.

Hope someone out there can tell me more.

HH Jer

I spent a while searching on this button, when I saw it on your other thread.I didn't come up with anything though.I'm sure someone will.Seems there are many books devoted to antique button manufacturers and identifications,I just don't own any of them unfortunately.BTW-I forgot to tell you congratulations on the new boy and heck while i'm at it I might as well wish you a happy birthday too! Welcome back to the site.

Hey, Jer—

I believe that your "K" button is a stock (generic) pattern rather than associated with a specific unit, institution, organization, location, etc. Major manufacturers have traditionally offered "alphabet" varieties as an alternative to custom made butttons. For example, if the city of Kearney, NE or Kingsport, TN didn't want to shell out any extra bucks for buttons for their uniformed employees, they could just select one of the "K" stock buttons. A very similar example offered by the Waterbury Button Co. is shown below.

Thanks alot PBK.

I couldn't get any where with this one. I knew it was old and was some type of uniform button. I'm guessing it's from the teens or 20's. Alot of the finds from the area were from that age.

Thanks again for your info.
