It looks like a modern bullet. Can you tell if it has crimp marks inside the ring? If so it is modern. If it has a slightly dished out base that would be a good indication it is modern as well.

Welcome to the forum. When I first looked at it, I thought it was a Colt rifle, but it's not long enough, so I'm with VaY in that it's probably modern. Breezie

Appears to be a 158 gr. .38 Spl round nose or the same bullet would work in a .357 Magnum. Or it could be a 140 gr.38 S&W or it could be any one of several other .38 caliber handgun bullets. Only by knowing the exact weight in grains and the exact diameter would you be able to determine for sure. .38 cal. bullets have ranged from .354" to .358" in diameter and various weights in ".38" caliber cartridges over the years. But most likely the .38 Special bullet I named first. And it would be a fairly contemporary bullet. Monty

I do not see any crimp marks in the groove. And the base does have a slight dish to it. So it must be modern, even though it looks old. Thanks for the replies.
