That sure is a neat find :) I usually would not dig a target that size :) Being mainly a coin hunter I wonder how many treasure chests I have passed up because of the target size LOL

I'm thinking it came off some type of old traction driven farm equipment.

Cool find !

You could always clean it up with a Wire Wheel and Sand Paper - Prime it and paint it Black.
I have several of them that I did this to leaning against trees in our yard - they look pretty nice.

holy cow! I found one in the ground at my dads house but when I realized it wasn't a civil war sword (hit one of the spokes first and it looks kind of like a sword) I quit digging, it was about 8" down in the Georgia red clay at the bottom of a ravine.

Old farm dig. . Rough but in one piece. This one took a while.
It Would make a nice display or you might make a few bucks on it? Go over it with a chipping hammer and then with a steel welding brush. A mixture of 3 prts mineral spirits or (paint thinner) and 1 prt linseed oil. Twice. It will dry to a nice patina. It would look good hanging on someone's barn or shop!

This a 1912 Deering thresher.

The wheel measures 32” across . Seen some, kind of like it, on what was called a buck board wagon . But I’m not sure.
Buggies and buck boards did not usually have metal spokes because of the extra weight. The thresher I posted looks like the same wheels. Keep in mind that same wheels came on many different things. Only a few manufactures made their own wheels. I still think you should clean it up. My other hobby is restoring hit & miss engines and other pieces of antique farm machinery. I have 50/60 spare iron wheels.

That makes sense. I’m definitely going to get it cleaned up and hang it up. Thanks for the info.
