You're right on. I have several pieces with iron wheels, also wagons with iron wheels were called trucks.I'm thinking it came off some type of old traction driven farm equipment.
It Would make a nice display or you might make a few bucks on it? Go over it with a chipping hammer and then with a steel welding brush. A mixture of 3 prts mineral spirits or (paint thinner) and 1 prt linseed oil. Twice. It will dry to a nice patina. It would look good hanging on someone's barn or shop!Old farm dig. . Rough but in one piece. This one took a while.
Buggies and buck boards did not usually have metal spokes because of the extra weight. The thresher I posted looks like the same wheels. Keep in mind that same wheels came on many different things. Only a few manufactures made their own wheels. I still think you should clean it up. My other hobby is restoring hit & miss engines and other pieces of antique farm machinery. I have 50/60 spare iron wheels. The wheel measures 32” across . Seen some, kind of like it, on what was called a buck board wagon . But I’m not sure.
That makes sense. I’m definitely going to get it cleaned up and hang it up. Thanks for the info.Buggies and buck boards did not usually have metal spokes because of the extra weight.
