This isn't a what is it post even I'm smart enough to know they are buckles lol. I'm just curious if anyone can help me on the age of them. They were found at an old house built around

buckles.webp

Those are probably mid 19th century. If you can get some buttons or coins from the site, you'll be able to date it closer.

Based on their size and construction, I'm thinking inside pants buckles. :icon_scratch:
They also look to be stamped brass as opposed to cast brass, so I'm thinking turn of the century.

Don’t know, but I liiiiike’m, buckles are my new fetish.......along with axeheads, wheaties, clad, silver, gold, jewelry, bottles, old car parts, stuff I can’t identify, hot rocks, door knobs, keys, pull tabs, beer cans and horseshoes
Good job!! Maybe pop some new leather on there.

The clue is that that one of them has a fixed central pin, makes it post 1900. They are both early 20th C.

what is a fixed central pin? If you mean the part in the middle both move up and down to go in the hole in whatever belt they are on.

The pin is fixed on the central bar & is not able to move/slide like all its pre-1900 ones. (there are a couple of exceptions)

No both of these do move. Does that make a difference in the age?

Only the top one slides on the central bar but makes no difference to its age, they are both 20th C. The bottom one only moves as ALL buckle pins do, up & down. NOT sliding along the central bar.
