Hi all,

Not sure if my post was deleted previously, but here it is again:

Can you help ID this belt buckle? I have permission to hunt on a revolutionary war battlefield, where a small skirmish occurred. Haven’t found anything yet that would indicate its 100 percent from the war.

Anyhow, I found this belt buckle. I’m curious if you know how to tell if it’s old, or if it’s from the war?

Also, is this my first square nail ever? Or do they still make nails today shaped like this?

Lastly, and idea what this thing is? It does have a logo of some sort on it, but I’m out of ideas on what it could be.

Thanks everyone.

Modern hardwood flooring nails are made like that, but it could still be old.

Congrats on your finds. The buckle looks like a late 18th c. shoe buckle. It has a slight curve and that style was common. I'm not sure how to date a square nail but I have dug hundreds if not a thousand so far and yours looks old. Not a modern nail. The last pic with the symbol reminds me of a old cap gun part. If so, probably from 1950s-60s. If you are on Rev War grounds I would dig all repeatable signals, I'm sure there are some good discoveries to be found. GL & HH

Thanks so much! Just realized both of my posts are in two separate threads. Sorry for anyone who sees it twice!

This is seriously amazing to me. I’m almost trying to convince myself it’s not that old. But you seem pretty confident about that! This is really exciting to me, as I have NEVER found something that old metal detecting before. I’m still skeptical, but that’s just the way I always am! Do you really think this is not modern? Could it be from the war since that was 1778, and I am apparently directly on the battlefield (never found anything from the war yet, and was about to give up)?

Awesome shoe buckle!! Looks 1760's-1790's, give or take a decade or two on either end, I don't remember the exact range that the expert say they are from. Soon you will have more square nails than you will know what to do with lol, they are still very old though.

I am jumping around over here. I can’t believe it. I know I keep saying this, but you are certain the buckle is old?! I just don’t know how you can tell! There is no markings on it or anything.
