Old Buckle Find. Any clues on how old?

I dug up this buckle today that is made of iron and measures just under 3"x2". Any clues on how old and its purpose? Thanks All!! :thumbsup:

i think it's a "bat wing" type buckle. 1700's i believe. nice find!

It doesn't look iron in the picture, looks like a modern horse tack type 100 years max.
