It's a railroad lock! This is a GOOD find!

The letters are the key to dating it. I would imagine it stands for "New York and S______ Railway" (the last letter is a "Y" not a "V")

Seneca?

Syracuse?

That part I don't know. :-\

That truly is a railroad switch lock. They were or I should say many were made with the name or initials of the Railroad on them. I found an old Santa Fe switch lock when I first started detecting but it was not in very good shape. There is a national organization of switch lock collectors and if you can find their web site you will probably be able to positively identify it. I use to have it here on my 'puter but lost it when I fought a virus last summer. Here is what I am talking about! Monty
