Old brass goblet

I'm not sure on age but looks to have well over 100years in the ground (maybe 18th century, not its a wild guess, as its not my specialism). Very nice find :icon_thumright: I look forward to the full ID.

Are there any ID marks, casting IDs, or other tell tale hints on the bottom of the goblet?

I can not see anything on it. It is very wore also. Should I try and clean it, I don't know if it would damage it!

Welcome to TNET , Cool item. Could you add a coin/ruler for size reference and could you also
clarify "under a cannon" , such as in silt/mud etc. A pic of the cannon could also help date your
goblet.

The cup is about six inches from top to bottom. Under a cannon meaning, the wreck of the Rome, off the island of Tortola, about 500 yrds off of the wreck, a cannon was pulled up from 130 ft out of a sandy coral bottom.

Appreciate the info, there might be a few familiar enough here to help but ( I) would hate to venture a guess and possibly lead you in the wrong direction. You could try this forum http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/board,5.0.html , where they are much more familiar with this type of find. (I think)

Best of luck on your goblet.

(Would love to learn more about the "Rome", any links?)

I can't add anything to it's age, value, where from etc...
However, I would say do NOT try to clean it. I wouldn't do anything with it, in terms of cleaning, rubbing any of the patina off of it or anything. Most collectors of these types of items want the patina, age and what have you showing... (type items = bronze, brass, copper...relics of any type)

Looks like some I've seen made in India, my two cents worth. Cool find.

It looks similar to some of the old brass communion cups I have seen.

That's a great find in good condition and I would advise you NOT to clean it, get some expert
advice and go from there.
Dave.
