IMG_20170427_105352.jpgIMG_20170427_105414.jpg. I actually dug this up a few weeks back and JUST realized that there is a dragon (serpent) on it. I found it along the shore if Lake Michigan near a know Indian trade location. Any ideas?

Part of a furniture piece maybe, a drawer pull? Sub 8-)

A little different, but seems too close not to be a sideplate... often associated with the fur trade.

I see there is variations, so that adds to my confidence that's what you have. Might be able to match it.

is it broken on one end?
** Correct - it is broken on one end. The outside edges are fairly sharp so would make sense that it is a plate of some sort (my first through was drawer pull actually).

Agree, side plate off an Indian Trade Musket.

I am thinking the same thing...side plate to a trade musket. I will keep my eye out for a possible match to the design (and the other half that it surely buried out there nearby).
