Finally found time to hunt. I keep honey bees and the season is winding down. I hunted an old Boy Scout camp that had been in operation since the 50's. I found a small cave on the property too. Found a few old cans in there. I really believe the camp has been hunted thoroughly though. I didn't find one coin or scout relic! My favorite find was what I believe to be an older Roy Rogers cap gun. I have and old swimming hole and dive training facility planned for Monday.

I bet there are some Scouting items still in the ground, plus quite a bit of change. Have you determined where the tent lines would have been? This is where most of the goodies will be found. I was the Outdoor chairman for the local troop in the late 70's and throughout the 80's. Job entailed planned outings and camp outs, transportation arrangements and such. I think they liked me because of my 3/4 ton long bed truck which hauled a lot of gear all over Texas and New Mexico. I never went to a camp site that I didn't take a detector. Found a lot of change, a lot of it silver (old camps) and a lot of pocket knives, badges, pins, and tie clasps. One BSA facility we frequented has a river running thru the middle of the camp. Before a flood control dam was built, the tent rows were on a rocky ridge above the flood plain. After the dam, they moved the tent rows down to the river basin where the ground was softer and the kids would be closer to the swimming areas. Since troop leaders and scouts come and go, the original location of the tents was mostly forgotten. When I found where those original tent rows were it turned into a bonanza. Easiest digging I ever did. Due to being on a rock ridge everything was almost on the surface, just a layer of rotted leaves above rock. Give that camp another try but look the area over good and try to determine where the tent rows would have been.

great finds

That site should have a lot of potential. Take what ever time to scout out the areas with the most potential and swing slowly and take the time to hear the deep signals.
Good luck and HH

Wow! Thanks for the great info. I will do a little more research and find a more exact location for the tent lines.
