I am pretty sure I am done hunting this old ballpark until I get a big WOT coil. I had a lot of fun hunting this place and learned a lot about my machine in the process.

Totals:

50 Silver dimes
3 Buffalo nickels
2 old Jeffersons
1 silver war nickel
2 Indian heads
3 religous medals (1 silver 1 copper 1 plated)
4 rings (2 silver 1 copper 1 unknown)
1 SLQ no date
127 Wheat pennies ( W 1914D key date ;D)

Love my Ex2 8)

That's awesome, Gabbit! WOW! :o

So you really like the Explorer 2? I read where so many gave up on it. Any comments as to why these posts?

I suspect it's the same reason people give up on the other brands. They don't take time to really learn them.

Thanks for posting!

What's the deepest coin you dug?

Love the ex2 -- I think a lot of people give up on it quickly because the Ex2 is a pretty complicated machine, people don't want to slow down and listen and it is pretty heavy -- the most shallow keeper at the ballpark was about 5" -- most coins were are aroud 8"-10". The deepest find I had was actually the little silver ring it was around 12" deep. I did have one coin that was about 14" deep but I only got that because it was below another wheat penny that I dug and I checked the hole again with the probe. It all just goes back to how well you know what your machine is telling you.

Wow Gabbit! That park has been very good to you! I cant beleive how many wheats you have found! How old is that park? I just found my first wheat tonight, 1946, also the oldest coin I have found in my short detecting career. I have another question for you, it seems every nickel, dime or quarter I dig here is a dark red color, even coins that i know havent been in the ground for very long. I assume it has something to do with the soil, very volcanic, acidic, or something, I am fairly close to Yellowstone area. Do you have a similar problem in Boise area? Also, how would I clean them if I did find older silver? Your coins are beautiful! I did try soaking in a vinagar/salt solution & they turned green! lol just clad, maybe too much salt, eh? Should get my Quantum XT Pro tomorrow, I'm taking a sick day Friday to spend the day getting aquainted with it! Also ordered an Ace250 as a backup, get it in a week! Doing a little research, looking for the older spots, hope to get some older coins very soon. Gotta pay off the new equipment you know! ;D
The pic shows the dark redish color of the coins, the vertical rows are quarters, nickels & dimes, & one 50 cent peice.

Yea the park was very good to me -- I think it was more what I leared at that location which has been the most important thing -- was able to take what I learned there and duplicate it in other areas. I am pretty sure the park has been around since the 30's

The clad coins do turn pretty quick around here, but I don't think it is nearly as bad as your area.

Not sure your ground would treat silver that bad -- guess you won't know until you find a piece (shouldn't be long now) -- Why clean clad? -- I would rather just throw it into the bin at coinstar than spent countless hours trying to clean it. I know some use rock tumblers -- they seem to work pretty well. I will only find about 200 in clad this year so spending 50 bucks on rock tumbler does not make a world of since. I try not to clean my silver, but sometimes I have to. I use a car wax called liquid luster -- or zymol cleaner wax to get the bad tarnish off the surface. It is carnuba based so it will not scratch the surface of the coin unless you are using a non 100% cotton cloth to do the polishing. If the corrosion or tarnish it thick I will take it off by using a jewlery cleaner plate thing -- it uses a detergent booster which bubbles and removes crud. Works really well with silver, but still testing it on copper and nickles. I have put a buffalo through it a couple of times and it is starting to return to it's origional color, but it seems to be drying out

Need to get into the library myself to do a bit of research. The older coins will come for you -- you will have me beat before long. Don't count on selling your coins to pay off a detector lol -- I thought the same thing until I found a couple semi valuable coins -- and now I am not sure I am going to sell -- maybe if I find 2 of the same year and mint mark -- or maybe I will save them until I retire.

Wow!!! Gabbit, awesome totals, WTG!!!
How long have you been hitting the old field? That looks like a years worth of hunting for me...

2/11/06 was the first time I hunted it and 4/13/06 was the last time -- so roughly 2 months -- got lucky and found a spot where dimes were plentifull :)

Thanks for all the info Gabbit, I ask too many Questions! Im hoping the silver wont look like the clad does when it comes out of the ground. I do love this hobby & I wont be selling any of my old coins............they will all go to my father who has collected coins since he was a kid. I suppose I will get them all back plus his nice collection eventualy............(hopefuly not anytime too soon!) ;D And I about did a backflip when I found the 46' wheaty! Felt damn good!

a lot of nice finds there gabbit :) thought about a ex II before i got the dfx. i only been out a few times with it :(. happy hunting :)

Very nice collection in deed! :o I love the way you clean them and put them in display cards. I have my better finds in diplays also. Although no IH's or silver liberty yet :'(

Way to go and thanks for sharing them with us!

Happy Hunting,
Moon

What was the most amount of silver dimes that you found in one day at this park?
