Now that is really cool. Are the initials A G R? I'm thinking banner but need more information, identification to push me over the edge. it's definitely got great qualities that a number of different collectors would want.

I see now what it is. It is a very good find in pretty good shape with a nice patina.

Yeah I have some gar buttons from that time period. I recognized the gar right away. That's a nice buckle and will display nicely

Sweet Grand Army of the Republic button. This was a veteran's organization for Union soldiers who fought in the Civil War. (Two other fraternal organizations were the SCV and SUV; Sons of Confederate Veterans and Sons of Union Veterans, based on the same connection to the Civil War...) There are actually many, Many fewer GAR sword plates dug compared to the eagle plates from the Civil War, so this is a great find, even though there isn't the demand for GAR stuff that there is for the CW plates, buttons, and relics. I'd be stoked to dig one of those.
