Great finds Rob! For a second though I thought your title was describing me.:laughing7:

Is that awl made of bronze?

Both cool finds.

Unless a certain shape (& yours has some detailing) the plain ones are near impossible to date, started in the Bronze Age into Iron Age & still used in Roman times. But as you state yours in most likely Roman period otherwise I would expect it to be plain.(harder to guess)

Cheers Cru, yes you're right they had a long time span.

Great finds Rob! Like the awl! I guess the scraper is more likely a fire starter. Had one like this myself and it was IDed by a neolithic specialist from our archies. It has the typical rounded tips from hitting Pyrite to make sparks. Mine looks similar but more worn. Very cool!

Thankyou Westfront, wonder what they were cooking ?.

Look for weird broken stones. They dug a pit, lined it with hide and filled with water. Then stones hot from the fire pit were thrown into the water heating it up enough to cook meat in it. The stones broke from the stress when thrown hot into the cold water leaving fragmented pieces. If you find these stones you're probably onto a neolithic camp site.... :occasion14:

I'm in awl of your finds :laughing7:...It's always nice when a piece of flint pops up, I never get sick of picking them up.
