Hi Guys, I purchased this old anchor in France and brought it back to Australia. The guy in the antique store in France said it was from the Caribbean and thought it was from an old longboat. True or False?

Wondering if anyone out there could estimate age and value.

Its a grappling hook.

And a nice one I might add.

That's one heck of a souvenir to bring back to Australia from France, most folks would've been happy with a desk-top model of the Eiffel Tower! :laughing7:
I sell antiques as a hobby and I've found a great story behind a relic, always helps sell it.

Somebody here will know for sure what you've got.

Welcome to Tnet from Toronto!
Dave

Errr has rather.

Um... didn't we just go through this last time someone posted a hook stating an anchor ?

:/

"omebody here will know for sure what you've got. " - lol sheesh there dave.

And to think I just gave you a good "feedback" on you posting acknowledging others posts.

:P

EXACTLY! This is why I don't even bother anymore. Can't count how many times I've put up info on padlocks and someone in the next comment will do that. What really frosts me is when you have four of them on the wall or on your desk with the info in Padlock Collectors and they want to guess.
A few years back somebody had a dug lock. I IDed it how? I had one new in the box, but that wasn't good enough......... This is why a lot of us say why bother?

My other gripe? Did anyone bother to say thank you for IDing the hook? :BangHead:

Boogeyman, I think sometimes it is a matter of timing. I have been typing a reply and got a phone call or something and, by the time I finish the post, two or three other people have posted.

To me, it looks like a river drag anchor. I used similar but smaller ones on my canoe as a kid. I’ve also seen them on house boats in the Swanny River in Florida. Just my 2 cents, please do not hit me
