I found this solid iron object off the east coast of florida on sandy bottom in 10 feet of water . It measures 4 ft across and is approximately 5 inches thick along the top, and looking straight at it it is 4 inches toward middle tapering down to 3 inches at ends. There are two protusions, 1 on lower right and 1 on upper left. It weighs approximately 250 lbs.

Not an anchor IMO...

Looks like a crab trap retriever davit arm. but ? ? ?

maybe a davit but solid cast iron, not from a fishing boat

You sure about that ?
Looks like a boat davit to me...
Broke free from base mount plate... prolly rusted at base like most do... and one day... the strain snaps it...
And down she blows. :)
Not positive on this... but my guess is my guess anyway :P

Cant find exact one... yours looks older...
Here is a pic of a modern version...

thanks for input but I have been a commercial fisherman all my life and no one uses solid cast iron for a davit, usually sch 80 pipe or square tubing like your picture maybe 80 lbs tops, also no one trap fishes in this area, although a few spanish shipwrecks in area

How do you know its solid ?
Those concretions and sand inside will make it feel solid some times.

Look man I am just guessing from a picture...
If it were me I would have broken a piece off already to get to the skin.
If you break it off and see irregular cirlces anno look... its galvi.

I have seen/recovered more encrusted davits in my life that most have seen.
My first recovery as a kid at age errr ? was a davit.

Davits in days of old (50's and 60's) were way thicker and I bet some were solid as well...
Could even be a barge davit arm. Not just fishing.

I have seen davit arms in all shapes sizes and compositions...
Whatever it may be...
IMO... it is not an anchor.

P.S.> IF it is a VERY old NON davit item of sorts from who god only knows... but of some historical nature...
In that case... welp... it should be reported by you to the State.
In which case they will be happy to inform you that it should not have been removed from the water or disturbed without expressed permitted consent.
Which...
I would assume/hope you already have.

It seems you were right knocked concretions off large protusion and found remains of hydraulic motor, seems it is some type of large heavy davit. Thanks for informed guesses
